A seminar training for senior managers (including those in the food and agriculture sector) on the topic “The importance of using monitoring and evaluation data for policy development and implementation” was held at Westminster International University in our capital . The event was organized by the Strategic Reforms Agency under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the International Center for Strategic Development and Research in Food and Agriculture (ISCAD) and was held as part of the mission of the Global Assessment Initiative’s monitoring and evaluation experts from June 18 to June 27 .

In order to provide a general introduction to the process at the seminar, Jan Goldman, a representative of the Global Assessment Initiative (GAI) , gave a presentation and spoke in detail about the goals and objectives of the GAI, as well as its mission in Uzbekistan.

Jan Goldman, Global Assessment Initiative (GBT):

– The agency asked me to come here and help with the evaluation work. We will look at the issues of improving the evaluation systems and development results in Uzbekistan. The trainings that are being organized today will help qualified managers to fully understand their tasks. They need to understand how important the evidence and evaluation system are to make the right decisions.

We are looking at the example of the agricultural sector, but this applies to all sectors, and the agricultural sector is a special example.

Also during the seminar, Amna Aqil, a representative of the Center for Economic Research of Pakistan (CERP), gave a presentation on the topic “The Role of Monitoring and Evaluation” .

In addition, the seminar held sessions on topics such as “Guidelines in the Policy Cycle”, “National Monitoring and Evaluation System in the Case of South Africa” . The essence, goals and objectives of the monitoring and evaluation system were examined in the cases of Uzbekistan and Pakistan .

Amna Aqil, a representative of the Center for Economic Research and Development of Pakistan (CERP):

I work at the Center for Pakistan and Central Asia Studies, a global assessment initiative. Our team is involved in developing and implementing national assessment systems. We are here to do our part, as requested by the agency. There are gaps that need to be filled. But we hope that we can work together towards a single system that brings together the interests of all.

In the discussions following the sessions, representatives of the Global Assessment Initiative mission and seminar participants exchanged views and experiences, and interactively discussed the potential contribution of a national monitoring and evaluation system in Uzbekistan.

This seminar also includes numerous meetings with key government and civil society organizations in the country during the Global Assessment Initiative mission’s visit to Uzbekistan.
